Santosa Detox & Wellness Center is delighted to announce the return of the Mezieres-Bertele Method to our detox & wellness center in Phuket. This is the only chance to experience this amazing 4-hand physiotherapy technique on the island.
The method was founded by Laura Bertele. In Italy, she is considered a pioneer in the physiotherapy field. Throughout her life, she has put all of her passion and professionalism into the Mezieres-Bertele Method.
Who is Laura Bertele?
Born in Italy in 1952, Laura Bertele graduated from Medicine & Surgery at the University of Milan, and subsequently obtained the specialization in Physical Therapy and Motor Rehabilitation. Laura’s thesis was titled “Mézières Method: New Postural Re-Education Hypothesis” and after it was given, she then became a permanent assistant in Orthopedics and Traumatology at the hospital in Cernusco sul Naviglio. Three years later, Laura Bertele was the first and only physician, to take part in the Mézières training course, held by Françoise Mézières, in Gers, France.
After the completion of the course, Laura returned to Italy and resigned from the hospital and began her collaboration with Françoise Mézières. In 1984, Laura was chosen by Françoise Mézières as a teacher in her training school together with French therapist Française Tisserand.
In the same years, Laura followed trainings in psychokinetics with Professor Jean Le Boulch in both France and Italy, training and teaching of the Tomatis Method, courses in Chinese massage, connective massage, deep lymphatic drainage, gymnastics courses ( Feldenkrais, Eutonia, Antiginnastica, Rolfing), and courses in contemporary dance.
Throughout the years, Laura has learned from the founders of Bioenergetics and has further acknowledged that the muscles are real armor in which we accumulate our emotions. When stretched, the muscles yield like dams, releasing emotions that flow like a slow river or sometimes a tumultuous torrent. With the 4-hands on the body, the body can feel the waves of emotions that the person perceives, conscientize, verbalize, or feel and manifest with tears or vegetative reactions. Each session presents a new path.
To deepen the emotional side, Laura Bertelè took part in psychocorporeal psychotherapy sessions with different psychotherapists of different orientations, until she joined the Order of Psychologists of Lombardy in 1983.
The result is a method that integrates the technique inherited from Mézières, with an approach that considers the person as a whole body-mind-emotions inserted in a social-family environment with which it interacts continuously and, just to not leave out any aspect of the patient’s health, over the years Dr. Laura Bertelè has been surrounded by several specialists with a common commitment in the search for the possible reciprocal interactions between apparently different pathologies.
About the Mezieres-Bertele Method
Direct from Italy, the Mezieres-Bertele Method teaches that the human body has 5 key muscle strains. The key strain is the back to the backside of the two legs (1st), followed by the two arms (2nd and 3rd), neck and chin (4th). The last strain is the muscle under the chest (5th).
These 5 muscle chains are not independent. In fact, they all affect each other. When you have pain in one of the strains and seek treatment, a traditional physiotherapist will work on the symptoms, however, if you work on only one the others will compensate. It is important to work on all muscle strains so that they can eventually balance out.
The Mezieres-Bertele Method utilizes a 4-hand technique to work on all of the body, and especially focus on the back which, according to this method, is the most important strain for the balance.
