The meditation consists of four, separate stages, practiced to a vibrant & energetic soundtrack.
The first phase, ‘the shaking,’ proves to be very grounding and energizing. Just imagine rooting your feet into the Earth, absorbing its energy, whilst shaking off any stagnant emotions, releasing stress and deeply-rooted trauma that might be buried within the body and the subconscious. Experience the freedom of movement, the freedom of your being. The shaking phase wakes the body up, recharging one’s being with energy, heat, and oxygen.
The second stage, ‘the dancing,’ allows one to experience the delight of being in one’s body. It is very liberating, de-stressing, and ecstatic. While dancing, the muscles of the body relax, energy is allowed to flow throughout the body without any obstacles, and one is imbued with a high dose of endorphins. Yes, endorphins, the natural pain-killers that elevate our mood, make us relaxed, and fill us full of vitality.
At the end of the second stage of the meditation, one has rid oneself of any physical, mental, and emotional ‘blocks’ and has elevated one’s vibration, preparing oneself for the third stage, ‘the sit- down.’
How still can one be, when there is turmoil in the head? During the third stage, the practitioner is encouraged to be still, sit, and observe the thoughts passing through their heads. During this phase, one is given the opportunity to experience various thoughts and emotions without attachment. These fifteen minutes give one a chance to be mindful, a quality that helps one to be more conscious, present, and grounded, not only on the mat, but in life.
The final phase of the meditation is ‘total relaxation.’ During the final fifteen minutes of the practice, one allows the body, mind, and spirit to let go and REST. During this stage, one lays their body down in Savasana, surrendering oneself to the gravitational force and feeling the warm, grounding embrace of the Earth underneath. At the same time, one is encouraged to let go completely, to go deeper within as the feeling of infinite space within and all around one increases – and the feeling of harmony with the universe, nature, and oneself takes over and one notices the constant, invisible connection to everything. TRX, Total Resistance Exercise, is an intense total body workout. It is a specialized form of suspension training that build muscle while combining both cardio and strength training. TRX is a popular class at Santosa held on Fridays from 10:00-11:00am.
Originally developed to train the elite Navy SEAL teams, TRX is a challenging workout that is effective and results driven. The concept behind TRX is quite simple. Participants suspend their body from a pair of cables on their hands or feet using both body weight and gravity as resistance to build up strength. How one chooses to position their body on the cables affects the targeted muscle groups and intensity of the workout.
What are the benefits of TRX?
One of the biggest benefits of TRX, in addition to its versatility, is that it truly works for everyone. TRX has great appeal and people from all walks of life have taken up the fitness class as many find it challenging and fun.
TRX will bring about a lot of benefits to the body. The exercise uses body weight and gravity as resistance to build up strength, lose fat and improve endurance and flexibility. TRX can really help participants achieve fitness goals.
During TRX, the body weight is leveraged to perform a variety of exercises that work the whole body but which also focus on your core. If your core is in tip top shape, it means you have abs or a six pack. If you wish to feel better, look better and move with ease, there is no better place to start than with the core. The functional movements used in TRX will increase overall core fitness.
Another outstanding benefit of TRX is that is also ensures you get your cardio in. TRX works out different parts of the body while getting the heart pumping. When using the suspension cables, so many various parts of the body are worked that the body’s requirement for oxygen will increase. Meditation is a powerful practice which comes with a wide variety of health benefits. During meditation, the mind is trained or induced into a mode of consciousness which in turn allows the mind to focus on peaceful thoughts.
Meditation can change our mind from negative to positive, from unhappy to happy and from disturbed to peaceful. Meditation is so good for us because it enforces overcoming negative minds and cultivates constructive thoughts. It also reduces stress, improves concentration, promotes a healthy lifestyle, increases happiness and benefits both cardiovascular and immune health.
Have you always been interested in meditation, but uncertain of where to begin? Once you get over the initial fear of sitting still and quiet, you will realize that the practice is quite easy and beneficial. Below we offer some tips to get started with meditation.
Remember to start small. Perhaps you can start your journey into meditation by training yourself to sit quietly for two minutes. Choose a dedicated time of day and a place, and go back to this place at the same time over and over. Set a routine and prepare the space. For example, use soft music or a special candle to enhance your meditation.
Focus on your breath. Breathe in and out, in and out. When you lose focus of your breath, your mind will start to wander. However, in the beginning when you first start meditation, if you do lose focus of your breath and your mind wanders, please do not be too hard on yourself. It is common for beginners to meditation to lose track of their breath. With practice, you will learn to become more focused and concentrate harder.
Essentially, there are two things that you need to start meditation. The first is a timer and the second is something comfortable to sit on. If you are new to meditation, it can be best to start training your mind by sitting in a chair. Once you become more comfortable with the practice you can invest in a mediation cushion. A meditation cushion allows you to sit in an upright position which can improve alertness and the quality of your meditation practice. A timer will help you keep track of the amount of time you meditate per day and is useful in tracking minutes per week as well as helpful to increase the time that you mediate.
During your meditation practice, it is important to sit. Get comfortable, breathe deep and start your timer. Close your eyes, listen to your surroundings and begin to focus on your breath. You can breathe in and out through your nose or through your mouth. Just focus on your breathing, and if your mind starts to wander, come back to concentrating on your breathing. Try not to focus on anything else during meditation but your breath.
