What shall we do if we have the cravings?

What shall we do if we have the cravings?

Santosa Detox Wellness Spa Phuket Healthy Eating Lady With Detox Drink

When discussing diets, human beings have a habit of reverting back to certain phrases that reinforce negative behaviours; how many times have you or someone else said “I love sweet food!” or “a cup of Americano is a MUST for me to wake up in the morning”?

Although these statements are fit for purpose for describing the everyday short-term desires of our bodies, they leave much to the imagination about what our bodies need. Perhaps we should be asking, “why do I crave these things?” and “what is really good for me?”.

Despite knowing better, we find it hard to break the habit of indulging those cravings and sparking conversations about the delicious treats we all know and love.

What happens to our bodies when we indulge our cravings?

When we feed our sugar cravings, our blood sugar peaks rapidly. This is because all these sweet foods are broken down into glucose quickly inside the body, which makes your pancreas produce large amounts of insulin. This insulin starts to work inside your blood stream, knocking on the doors of all cells that it can reach, and allowing them to open up and absorb glucose as a form of energy. This releases a rapid burst of energy and is why you feel so energetic for a short while after eating sweet thing.

Unfortunately, this energy does not last. The glucose inside your blood stream is used very quickly and results in your blood sugar dropping drastically. What follows is a sugar low.

The next desire of our body is to consume more sugar in order to rejuvenate our blood sugar levels; at this specific moment, your brain will send a signal to take in new energy as soon as you can. These signals present themselves in physical ways such as shaking and making concentration difficult.

So, we should eat more sugar, right?

When we are under this type of “unconscious” condition, our bodies will tell us this is the easiest thing to do because they can turn sugar into glucose quickly, meaning that your low energy condition will be enhanced straight away. However, this is exactly what we should not do. This is the time to break the cycle of blood sugar highs followed by deep lows. The more we feed our bodies sugar, the stronger the cravings become.

We need to find healthy alternatives to sugar in order to sustain our bodies for longer and avoid these crash cycles, as continuing to function in this way will cause long term damage to 3 major organs; the pancreas, liver and the adrenal gland (which reacts to low sugar). Damage to these is the main cause of type II diabetes.

Scientist and nutritionist have undertaken a number of research projects that have revealed that our food cravings can often be a sign of certain nutrient needs.

As such, we seek the foods we crave. For example, if your body needs more Magnesium, chocolate could provide this. When we eat the chocolate, our body responds by memorizing the taste and subsequent feeling gained from it. As a result, the next time your body is short of magnesium, you will grab a chocolate bar without thinking in order to satisfy it.

This is essentially ‘comfort food’ which contains plenty of unhealthy elements that have negative outcomes for our bodies. One way to look at it is that you always lose more than what you can gain from them.

What shall we do if we have the cravings?

Firstly, we should build up our awareness. Try to ask questions about alternative food to satisfy you and attempt to explore the reason behind your cravings. You can simply do a mineral test to find out what you need, take the right supplements and be free of the craving. Once we have the awareness, facing our cravings is easier and you don’t need to follow your unconscious mind and surrender to your craving.

Today, we will introduce the nutrients you may need from your craving and what type of food you can choose as a replacement.

Food is the fuel for our body. Whether said food is good or bad all rests on your knowledge and awareness of nutrition. We must not forget that a healthy human should always be in balance, the condition of “I must not eat this…” or “I should never eat that” is equally not normal. We can like something and we can certainly enjoy it, but how can we manage our relationship with it?

Have you been experiencing a particular food craving? If so, leave us a message. We will help you to identify what you might need.

9 day raw fast – best gift to your hubby

9 day raw fast – best gift to your hubby

“I surprised my husband with a 9 day Raw Detox at Santosa Detox & Wellness Centre right before our 5 week European holiday in July 2018.

From the very first day of our arrival we settled right in to the experience of detox and exercise. It was also a quiet period so there were not many guests which meant that we were pretty ‘spoiled’ by the wonderful staff. Each day we would wake up at 7am and head to the morning yoga, which was a wonderful way to start the day. Not too strenuous. Then we would have our green shot and head over to the morning meeting to explain the plan for the day ahead. We sipped on the concoction we had to take prior to our first colonic of the day and then would go to have the colonic which became a daily ritual (twice) we actually looked forward to.
Knowing that it was getting rid of toxins and waste in the body. The room was private and clean and there was a TV to watch informative shows.

After this there could be another exercise, like yoga, pilates, zumba, HIIT, acro yoga. Then the relaxing part of the day which we always looked forward to, a wonderful massage and then our Raw lunch. After this we might have half an hour to run down to the pool and swim and sunbathe before the next colonic. Then there would be another form of exercise or meditation for an hour. Time now for hot sauna and cold plunge pool.

Then, yay….. dinner! We did every single activity that was planned and virtually ran to every one. There was no time to sit and relax (except the half hour at the pool). We went back to our 2 bedroom apartment and there we would relax with TV or just simply get a good nights sleep and start all over again the next day.

We were loving it and my husband was feeling particularly good and energised and loving the fact that he was losing weight daily. By the end of the 9 days he had lost nearly 6 kgs and a great deal of visceral fat. I had lost just 1 kg (but had less to lose) but my body age that started at 36 (I am 60 yrs old) came down to 35 !

We went to Europe and met up with our friends and they all said how well we both looked. My husband still talks about Santosa daily and wants to return, which we will.

The staff were awesome, particularly Maria, Paula, Olivia and Leila. They are so knowledgeable and caring. The owner is lucky to have these girls and the other wonderful staff particularly when she returns home and leaves them to run the business. We could not fault anything. OK the accommodation is quite basic but it is clean and serviced every day.

We would highly recommend Santosa to anyone looking at changing up their lives and doing a detox who is serious. We look forward to returning in the not too distant future. “

Family and Spiritual Constellations Workshop in Phuket

Family and Spiritual Constellations Workshop in Phuket

For the first time in Phuket, Santosa Detox & Wellness Center is proud to host the Family and Spiritual Constellations Workshop over the weekend of the 27th and 28th of May. Facilitated by Marco Economides, this workshop will focus on healing the roots of relationships within families by delving deeper into the unconscious levels of the situation that may be causing stress.

A Family and Spiritual Constellations Workshop is a three-dimensional group process that has the power to shift generations of suffering and unhappiness. The founder of this work, Bert Hellinger, studied various families for more than 50 years and observed that many of us unconsciously take on destructive familial patterns such as anxiety, depression, anger, guilt, aloneness, alcoholism and even illness as a way of belonging our family units. Due to the bonds of deep love, a child will often sacrifice his or her own best interests in a vain attempt to ease the suffering of a parent or other beloved family member.

During this workshop, participants can expect to “go deep” into certain unconscious entanglements from their own families that seem to be conditioning present day relationships whether those relationships be romantic, within the family, at work or even with yourself. These entanglements may involve the original family of the participant, the present family or the ancestral past. The hidden dynamics of the issues will be looked at in more detail in order to discover what is taking place in the emotional, psychological and systematic realms and how it is impacting the present in terms of relationships, self-esteem and the ability to unlock or fulfill your potential. A Family and Spiritual Constellations Workshop consists of a group of people who agree to meet in a confidential and safe sacred circle in order to trigger a dynamic process of healing moving forward.

Santosa Detox & Wellness Center is proud to host this workshop on the 27th and 28th of May. The two day workshop will take place at our center located near Kata Beach in Phuket, Thailand. The workshop will be held from 9:30am until 6:00pm on both days. The total cost for the workshop is 6000THB per person, and includes a delicious lunch on both days at the Santosa Vegan Restaurant.

Facilitated by Marco Economides, the Family and Spiritual Constellations Workshop is an exceptional event that is sure to bring about a positive change in those who attend. Well-known in the health and wellness community, Marco Economides has been working in the field of holistic therapies and subtle energies for more than 7 years. His first experience with Family Constellations happened 10 years ago, and since then he has studied Family and Systematic constellations under different teachers in Italy and abroad. Marco is a certified facilitator for Family and Spiritual Constellations Workshops in Phuket and around the world.

Pre-travel detox

Pre-travel detox

Attending Santosa’s three day detox was a treat for the mind, body and soul. It also had a great social element; being surrounded by like-minded people with the combined goal of cleansing their bodies. The morning meetings, yoga, meditations and work-out classes brought us all together so we could connect easily.

This gave me the opportunity to discover what motivated people to do a detox. I discovered the vast majority go for their spring clean; to pick their bodies up after months or years of unconscious eating. Others go to remedy various health conditions without the aid of prescribed medication – a great alternative to mainstream medicine.

However, one of the less common reasons I came across was when people detoxed just before travelling. This unique take on a detox can be quite a powerful one. It’s not enough to say ‘a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step’, it has to begin with the right step.

So why make the first step of your journey a detox? Here are some great reasons for you to do so:

Detox Phuket

1)      Being in an environment you’re not used to can throw your immune system off guard, decreasing your resistance to infections.

2)      When travelling, you’re exposed to unusual parasites, insect bites, viruses and bacteria which means your defence system should always be strong.

3)      Getting ill on your travels can be unsettling, disrupt your journey and depending on the severity, it may cost you a fortune.

Even though we cannot avoid everything, we take precautions that decrease the likelihood of catching something. A detox is one of the strongest precautions we can take. Why? Because it completely recharges the body. It gives our bodies first line of defence the chance to function optimally by flushing the body of harmful toxins that suppress it.

How you can detox before your trip ….

Ø  Start with the small things: begin your day with a cleanse drink and give your body the boost it needs. Choose from either coconut water, warm (not hot) lemon water or a wheatgrass shot to give your blood and body a complete cleanse every morning.

Ø  Eat the right fruits: Hunt for fruits that are high in vitamin C to build your immune system plus clean your colon, stomach and intestines. Keep consuming pomelo, papaya and oranges to supply you with your daily Vitamin C needs.

Ø  Take probiotics: doing so in the form of yogurts or even better, Kefir, will  keep your digestive tract balanced. Something as simple as adding yogurt to your cereal every morning can increase the good bacteria in your gut. Doing so will help your body fight any infections that come.

Ø  Travel with Calcium Bentonite Clay. Coming from volcanic ash, the clay has a negative ionic charge. This allows it to draw bacteria and toxins away from your body as these are positively charged. Add psyllium husk for the perfect cleanse drink.

Ø  Load your body with green smoothies. Fresh juices is a great way of getting your veggies in a raw, untouched form. Juicing pre-digests your vegetables so all the antioxidants, vitamins and minerals can be utilized quicker. Make your main focus celery, beetroots, kale, spinach, and carrots and try to get them organic. You can add your favourite fruits to sweeten things up and don’t forget about super-food powders like matcha, spirulina and chlorella!

Ø  Alternatively… book yourself into a detox centre away from the hustle and bustle of city life. If you are staying somewhere with a heavy tourist industry like Phuket, Santosa offers a peaceful retreat away from the noise.  Get daily guidance from experts and gain access to top quality facilities, supplements, nourishing foods and healing classes.

Ø  Eat living foods: sprouts (like sunflower and alfalfa) are nutrient powerhouses and contain a full profile of nutrients and enzymes which are easily assimilated by the body. If you want to grow your own, remember the stage at which enzymes are most active is from germination to the seventh day. During this stage, the level of enzymes are 100x more powerful then enzymes found in fruits or veg.  So cut out the junk food and replace them with raw snacks and sprouts today!

Ø  Remember the digital detox:

Disconnecting can make the world of difference to your travels. We live life in subservience to our devices. When the notification goes, we are compelled to look, compelled to communicate, compelled to stay connected.

It can be pretty liberating however to switch off the phone, just for a while, and immerse yourself completely in your surroundings. When you interact with people, you do so fully. When you eat, you do so with all your attention. The big benefit of becoming disconnected is that you become more connected to what’s around you. There are also the following benefits:

Ø  You won’t miss meaningful moments life blesses us with

Ø  You will get a more restful sleep

Ø  Research reveals disconnecting can boost creativity and help you solve problems  more efficiently

Ø  You’ll be surprised how much time you spend texting, ‘Facebooking’ and ‘Instagramming’. Get rid of the digital devices and get more time for doing cool and memorable things that enhance your journey.
